After completing her 200-meter race, visually impaired Paralympian, Keula Nidreia Pereira Semedo of Cape Verde, was met with a big surprise from her running guide.

From being partners on the tracks – they became partners in life, as the 32-year-old Paralympian tearfully accepted the surprise proposal. The other competitors, also visually impaired, soon understood what was happening, and cheered and applauded, as the engaged couple shared a sweet embrace.
Although she did not win the race, she may have ended up with something more valuable than a gold medal; a life-long partner.
As a visually impaired runner, Semedo requires a running guide who is attached to her via a small tether. As an established tight-knit team on the tracks, there is no question that they will work as a team, as they run into this exciting new chapter of life.
Semedo lives in Portugal, however, she has been competing for Cape Verde, her birth country, since 2005. According to her Olympic profile, the Paralympian considers her fiancé as the top influencer, in her successful career.
It appears that love is in the air folks, as this happens to be the second proposal to take place at the Olympics this year!
