Zlwin Chew’s Magical Success Story

Meet Zlwin Chew, one of Malaysia’s top magician who has made a name for himself internationally. Having performed across 23 cities in 21 countries and 6 continents, Zlwin continues to strive for greater success.
Yet, it was never a bed of roses for this young man from Klang. His parents preferred him to get a degree for a stable future. In an interview with the The News Straits Times, Zlwyin said, “I was halfway through my university course at the time. I was spending a lot of time perfecting my craft and as a result, my grades weren’t that good. My parents were naturally concerned and asked me to quit magic. They said I could always pick it up again after I graduated. But I was confident of my abilities and believed I could make a living as a magician.” Eventually, his parents gave their blessings.
Determined to realise his goal, Zlwin started out by performing magic shows at clubs. His big break came when he made it as the resident magician at Zouk Club in KL.

On his lowest lowest point as an upcoming magician, he recalls a few incidents, “After my first few cruise ship contracts, I invested all my money into building a bigger and grander show. I went to Las Vegas to study, learn and build my show and my huge illusion props. I came back and with a newer show I proposed to the cruise company. They did not want to hire me anymore. I knew why. I wasn’t good enough.”
Even his mentor and role model told him he wasn’t good enough. Instead of crumbling under pressure, Zlywin rose to the occasion and focused on improving his skills -“I continued to work on myself, determined to make my shows better and better and better”, he told World of Buzz.

Looking back at his humble beginnings in the industry, Zlwin is proud to have stuck to his decision. In fact, after experiencing both highs and lows, Zlwin strongly advocates young people to pursue their passion – “When you have a dream- if it is good and does no harm to anyone. I compel you to pursue it with all your might, spirit and soul.”
Zlwin Chew’s personal journey to success is truly inspiring as anything is possible with hard work and determination!
