Working hard to sell burgers - all so she can care for 47 stray dogs!

She cooks and sells burgers at a stall in Rock Cafe, Bandar Sunway through the night - just to care for 47 stray dogs which she cares for independently.

Ong Siew Hiang, 59, who runs Survivor Shelter began rescuing strays in her thirties and prefers to depend on herself rather than donations to run the shelter.

She is single and is a trained chef specialising in Thai food.

Ong used to run a restaurant in Subang Jaya but gave it up after her partner fell sick, and opened the burger stall at the cafe.

All the income from her stall goes for her shelter which she has been running for the last six years.

"There are 47 dogs at the shelter in Semenyih. They are mostly victims of hit-and-run incidents and I would nurse them back to health before they stay at the shelter," she said.

She spends about RM6,000 to RM7,000 every month to operate the shelter, which includes a helper.

“Thankfully I have the support of AnimalCare, which donates 16 packets of kibbles to me and it helps to offset some of the cost,” she said, adding that she needs about 30 packets of kibbles monthly to feed the dogs.

Ong’s stall has six types of burgers to choose from.

“The meat used in the burgers is my own recipe,” she added.

She does bulk orders too but customers would need to pick these up from her stall.

She is open daily from 4pm to 2am except Thursdays.

By supporting her burger business, you not only get to enjoy a good meal but are also helping leave a positive impact on the lives of these animals
