Young hit some pretty hard times when as she was unable to pay her student debt of $700 causing her to be barred from attending classes in criminal justice at Georgia State University.
In an interview with WIST-TV, she said, “Every time I got ready to pay the money, my kids needed something, I said, Okay, I’ll just wait.”
Her prayers were answered one night when she drove a passenger to a soccer game and spoke about her financial struggles as a student.
After a few days, she received a call from the university informing her that her Uber passenger, Kevin Esch, had paid off her remaining student debt and as such she is free to attend classes.

Filled with immense gratitude, the mother of three told reporters, “When he paid the balance, I had to do this for him. I maintained my grades, As and Bs, just trying to do everything to make sure he knows I appreciate him.”
The icing on the cake was definitely Esch’s presence at Young’s graduation ceremony a few weeks ago when she graduated with an associate degree in criminal justice.

“There was something about Latonya that just—she resonates with me and we developed an incredible friendship now and I am incredibly proud of what she’s done,” he told CNN Full Circle. “I could’ve bought new clothes or I could’ve helped someone out. And what has come back to me has come back a hundredfold and I would do it 1,000 times over.”
Esch’s generosity is definitely a great motivation for Young as she prepares to pursue her bachelor’s degree!
