American actor and director, Joseph Gordon-Levitt recently released a short film titled “This Is Malaysia” on his Facebook page showcasing Malaysia in all her beauty and diversity.
This short film is unique for a reason. It is a collaborative creative project between Hollywood and Malaysia! Hosted by staff user @theRaymondWei, 88 users’ creative contributions were selected and edited into the short film, and then produced by HitRecord, the online creative platform founded by the Hollywood actor himself. This platform provides the opportunity for anyone to participate in the creative process of a project regardless of location, background, and experience. Users on the app are able to contribute content, voiceovers, singing, short films, or even pictures to be used in any creative project.
The 2-minute short film features video clips and breathtaking Malaysian sceneries, cultural festivities, multi-ethnic population, street life, and landmark scenic views from the Petronas Twin Towers to places of worship, paddy fields, rivers, and the Cameron Highlands tea plantation. The pictures, video clips, and voice-overs were contributed by Malaysians for this project on HitRecord (How awesome is that?). In fact, the contributions selected for the short film were chosen among thousands of applications, according to the Malay Mail.
Curious to know who those contributors from Malaysia are? Here’s a screenshot from the end credits of the short film.
On 5th October, 2020, Joseph Gordon-Levitt posted the short film to Facebook thanking everyone who contributed to the short film – “Proud to share “This Is Malaysia,” the finished short film we created collaboratively on hitRECord! HUGE thank you to everyone who contributed to this project. I’m proud of what we all made together, and looking forward to the next one.”
The short film has since garnered up to approximately seven thousand reactions and 339 comments in total most of which were positive!
“Amazing compilation video of Malaysia! Am proud to be Malaysian! Thanks Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Hit Record!” reads one comment by Wan Khatijah. “He used my picture!!!! Woohoo” reads another comment by April Augustin. “Feel free to come n visit Malaysia when covid19 over. We welcome you here”, said Justina Jaqueline.
In August, Joseph Gordon-Levitt called out to Malaysian artistes to collaborate with him for an original song and music video, linked to his upcoming Netflix movie, Project Power.
