Unique features of the board game

The board game is handmade out of beautiful and solid Baltic birch wood and features watercolour illustrations of 28 female icons!

Packed in a visually appealing box, each box contains two boards which features watercolour illustrations of 28 female icons painted on the wood, two legend strips to help you understand the icons, 28 ‘mighty women’s’ biography cards packed with fun and interesting facts and the rulebook.

Zuzanna Kozerska-Girard, founder of games company Playeress and creator of the board game told Thomson Reuters Foundation, the idea behind the creation of the board game is to educate children on achievements of leading women in various fields such as politics, activism, science and technology as well as arts and entertainment.

“If you’re a girl who’s three years old and you see men everywhere in positions with more power, you’ll just think that that’s the way it is. I think it’s important to bring this (gender gap) up with kids – and the simple way to do this is by playing games.”

How to play the board game

Two players, each with a biography card of a famous woman, must ask each other questions until her identity is answered correctly. Basic questions may include ‘Did she win a Nobel Prize?’, ‘What did she invent?’ and the list goes on until one player successfully names the iconic woman ranging from aviation pioneer and author, Amelia Earhart to Nobel laureate, Malala Yousafzai.

In a nutshell, the gameplay is similar to the classic game of Guess Who?.

Response towards the board game

Over 6,000 units have been sold following its launch in November 2018, on crowdfunding site Kickstarter. Kozerska-Girard has also received around €500,000 in funding to produce the game! Sold at €75 (RM353), a more affordable cardboard version is currently in the works.

Made to inspire and educate girls that they too can achieve their dreams, even if someone claims ‘it is a boy’s thing’, this board game is not only suitable for children but also for adults.
