The Kuala Kangsar Cannon team emerged as the champions of the Perak Sepak Takraw League (STL) which was held for the first time this year, bringing home RM10,000 in cash and a round trophy.

Second place was won by the Kinta Sword team, and third place was won by Kampar Revolver, while trailing behind at fourth is Perak Tengah Katana. The three teams each brought home cash of RM7,000, RM5,000 and RM3,000 respectively.

The prizes were presented by Perak Education, Higher Education, Youth and Sports Exco, Khairudin Abu Hanipah after the final round of the league at the Kinta Town Hall.

Khairudin stated that even though it was the first time that STL Perak was being organized, it was very well received as it saw the participation of representatives from 12 districts.

The 32 players who participated in the tournament are teenagers under the age of 19.

"This is a good sign for the sepak takraw scene in Perak because these people can be used as backup and as preparation for the upcoming Malaysia Games," he said.

Khairudin also announced that his party plans to continue the league in the coming years with some improvements. Among the improvements suggested is that the series be increased to five or six, compared to four this year.

"We also suggest making it according to the district with teen or youth squads as well as adult squads to show that we are not short of competent players," he added.
