National women's squash player, S Sivasangari successfully bagged the gold medal in the women's singles event at the 2022 Asian Games after defeating Hong Kong's Chan Sin Yuk 3-2 in a dramatic final at the Hangzhou Olympic Squash Center, yesterday.

After denying Hong Kong a win in the women's team event, Malaysia once pulled off an upset in the women's singles event via Sivasangari.

This is the fourth gold medal for the national contingent.

The victory also saw Sivasangari becoming a double gold medallist as this is her second feat.

Sivasangari, however, had a difficult start when she lost the first set 8-11. She bounced back magnificently with a 15-13 victory in the second set but Sin Yuk provided a tough challenge in the competition as she won 12-10 victory in the third set.

Sivasangari dragged the match to the deciding set when she won the fourth set 11-9 and then sealed the victory in the stellar fifth set with 12-10.

Earlier on, Sivasangari advanced to the final of the Asian Games women's singles event for the second time in a row after edging out the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2022 Women's World Team Championship, Satomi Watanabe 3-0, yesterday.

We congratulate Sivasangari for her sterling achievement.
