Sarawak is looking to implement the proposed standard assessments for Year Six and Form Three students that emphasise Dual Language Programme (DLP) subjects by 2025.
Sarawak Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee In said the Ministry of Education (MOE) supported the proposal and agreed to assist in implementing such assessments across all the public schools in this state.
He said the assessment was vital to gauge the effectiveness of the DLP and other initiatives by the state to increase the uptake of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects in schools.
He said that 606 teachers have been trained under the teaching of Science and Mathematics in the English programme this year, in addition to the 5,200 teachers trained previously.
The Form 3 Assessment (PT3) was abolished in June 2022, while the Primary 6 Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) was scrapped in 2021.
