RM100 additional monthly allowance for PSD scholars in local unis

Public Service Department (PSD) scholars in local universities will receive an additional RM100 allowance from next month.

Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said this will give each scholar an additional RM1,200 each year.

He said the government would also increase the living allowance for PSD scholars overseas (except for those in the United Kingdom) by 15 per cent.

The allowance of those in the UK had already been increased in November last year.

"It is part of the government's effort to tackle the rise in cost of living especially for students in the B40 category living in big cities where they are studying.

"This initiative to review living allowances will enable students sponsored by the government to focus on academic excellence without having to think about the financial burden while ensuring that the government's sponsorship offer remains relevant and prestigious," he added.
