It was a rare treat for road users in Kluang recently when they witnessed a herd of elephants crossing a trunk road.
A social media user uploaded video clips showing the animals emerging from a secondary jungle and crossing the road.
A crowd of curious motorists and villagers soon formed, with cars, bikes, and pickup trucks parked along the roadside, with their handphones raised high to capture the spectacle on video.
Johor National Parks director, Taufik Bahar, said investigations will be conducted by the Johor State Forestry Department and the State Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) to confirm the location, and decide on the next course of action.
Taufik added that it was important to establish where the herd of elephants came from, so that the villagers', and the animals' safety is not compromised.
"Wildlife will roam, in search of food, or when there is something wrong with their ecosystem," he added.
