Penang Lawyer-Turned-Singer Scores Nomination In UK Bhangra Awards

Kamal Chopra recently added another feather to her cap by scoring a nomination for the Best International Artist category in the UK Bhangra Awards 2019!
The former lawyer was nominated for her work in promoting the Punjabi culture throughout the course of one year. The icing on the cake is the fact that Kamal beat other singers from countries such as the United States, Canada and Sweden to be the only singer selected to perform live at the luxurious Regency Banqueting Suite in Birmingham, United Kingdom. Bravo!
“Although singers from five other countries comprising the United States, Canada, Sweden, India and United Arab Emirates were nominated, I will be the only one performing,” said the singer as reported by The Star.
To pursue her musical dreams, the mother of three made the ultimate sacrifice – she gave up her law practice. Kamal went all out and even signed up with the Rockschool International Music and Performance Arts, UK (vocal performance).
It was Kamal’s impressive performance at the Penang International Jazz Festival 2015, that provided her the opportunity to enter and qualify for the World Championship of Performing Arts Competition last year.
And now, she has a shot at the largest and most prestigious Bhangra event in the UK!
Yeoh Soon Hin, Chairman of the Penang Tourism Development, Arts, Culture, and Heritage Committee, also shared in the exciting news. She hopes the odds will be in favour of Kamal on the day of the event.
