More than 15,000 restaurants offer the Rahmah Menu priced at RM5 for lunch or dinner for the B40 group, starting today.

It is in line with the launch of the Rahmah Menu initiative by the government, today, aimed at ensuring that the B40 group can afford to buy food at restaurants at a reasonable price.

The Minister of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, said that through the initiative, it is hoped that there will be no more target groups who cannot afford to buy food in restaurants.

"More than 15,000 restaurants from seven associations of food and beverage operators gave their commitment to provide the Rahmah Menu at their respective premises.

"I hope that after this, this group will be able to buy food and no longer go hungry because they cannot afford to buy food at restaurants," he said after the Rahmah Menu Launch Ceremony.

He said that he is also sure that the wealthy will not take the opportunity to choose the Rahmah Menu because they can afford other dishes.

Earlier, Salahuddin conducted a price survey of goods at Mydin Supermarket, here and he was satisfied with the quality and price of the goods sold.

"On average, we see that people are wise to choose quality products at reasonable prices before buying," he said.

He also inspected the supply of subsidized eggs and cooking oil at the supermarket.

"Mydin's management has suggested that targeted subsidies be given directly to consumers because that way is more beneficial to the people.

"The ministry will study this proposal before making any decision about it. In this survey as well, the people gave positive feedback, but still expect the government's help to control the price of goods and cover the cost of living," he said.

Meanwhile, Pasar Raya Mydin also donated 5,000 packs of Rahmah Menu food to Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) students who comprise the B40 group.

Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd's Managing Director, Datuk Wira Dr Ameer Ali Mydin, said his side is also committed to ensuring that all food operators in its supermarkets nationwide will provide the Rahmah Menu, for a period of three months and continue if the situation permits.
