In response to the government's decision, McDonald's Malaysia donated RM1 million to the Palestine Humanitarian Fund as a sign of support for those affected by the conflict in Gaza.
According to Gerbang Alaf Restaurants Sdn. Bhd. in a statement, the action is in line with the government's wishes as announced by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the presentation of Budget 2024 in the Dewan Rakyat, last week.
"The Prime Minister's proposal to allocate RM10 million to the Palestine Humanitarian Fund is in line with our commitment to support those affected by the conflict in Gaza.
"Therefore, McDonald's Malaysia is joining hands with the government in supporting this funding in the hope that it will help the Palestinian people who are facing difficult times," he explained.
He said, McDonald's donation is expected to directly support the humanitarian aid mission in Gaza, thereby meeting the critical needs of those affected by the conflict.
"This aid covers medicine, food, shelter, and evacuation assistance if needed by the rescue team.
"Our commitment is fully focused on providing basic needs to those in need. We are confident that the spirit of cooperation can help in this critical time," he said.
In addition to the donation, McDonald's Malaysia also encourages its employees from all over the country to participate in fundraising efforts.
