The Malaysian contingent certainly did not disappoint at the ASEAN Para Games (APG) 2023 on Sunday after bagging eight gold medals, six silver and three bronze in Cambodia.
Six of the eight gold medals were courtesy of the outstanding performances by the para swimming camp on the first day of competition at the Aquatic Centre, Morodok Techo Stadium, which also saw three of them set new tournament records.
The gold medal was first contributed by Mohd Adib Iqbal Abdullah through the men's 100 meters (m) breaststroke SB14 (intellectual disability), then by Carmen Lim (100m women's breaststroke SB8 - physical disability) and Muhammad Imaan Aiman Muhammad Redzuan (50m backstroke S14 - intellectual disability).
They also managed to break a new record in this 12th edition.
Three more gold medals were obtained through Abd Halim Mohammad who held the title of champion for two categories, namely the 100m breaststroke SB8 (physical disability) and the 100m freestyle S8 (physical disability) while Fraidden Dawan won the 400m freestyle S10 event (physical disability).
In addition, two silver medals were added to the bag thanks to Duran Yaspi in the S14 50m backstroke (intellectual disability) and Rusdianto Rusmadi in the S8 400m freestyle (physical disability). Carmen Lim then contributed a single bronze medal in the S7-8 women's 100m freestyle (physical disability).
