The Royal Selangor Yacht Club (RSYC) Malaysia team emerged as the overall champion of the SB20 One Design category at the 2023 Singapore Regatta Championship which lasted for three days starting on 11 August.

Led by driver Muhammad Uzair Amin, the team topped the "passage race" event on the first day of the tournament and finished the fleet race event in second place on the second day behind Team Tara.

Muhammad Uzair is a former Malaysian sailor who won two gold medals at two consecutive SEA Games in the International 420 category.

Also sailing with Team Tara is the Young Raja of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

The MAF x MY Girls team also won the "Line Honours" in the International Rating Certificate (IRC) category for crossing the finish line in first place in each race.

The MAF x MY Gadis Team is a combination of sailors from the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) and MY Gadis Sailing Team.

This is the first collaboration between the ATM sailing team and MY Gadis female sailors who are racing the SY ZUHAL sailboat.

"This is the ATM Sailing Team's maiden participation in the Singapore Regatta. The Team's performance is very impressive by winning Line Honours," said team leader Lieutenant Commander Mohd Hanif Husain of the Royal Malaysian Navy to Bernama.

The largest team with 17 sailors was also selected as Best Visiting Yacht for displaying a high level of cooperation, sportsmanship and professionalism.

"This is the first time the MY Gadis team has officially participated in a race with the ATM team. This two-day race is challenging because it is in foreign waters, but I am happy with the results of our cooperation," said the founder of the MY Gadis team, Adlina Maria Abdul Majid.

The prize-giving event was also attended by the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Singapore, Datuk Dr Azfar Mohamad Mustafar.
