Identical twins Yeap Kai Wen and Yeap Kai Wei, 20, from Bukit Mertajam scored a perfect cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.0 in the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) exams.

Kai Wen, the elder twin, scored As in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and General Studies, while Kai Wei scored in Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and General Studies.

“We are lucky in the sense that we have each other to rely on. We studied together, did everything together.

“We are grateful and thankful to everyone who had helped us along the way, including our parents, teachers and friends,” he said at SMJK Jit Sin where both brothers came to collect their results.

Kai Wen will attend Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University soon to study chemical and bio-molecular engineering.

Kai Wei is still awaiting an offer from a local university to study medicine.

Kai Wei said he was apprehensive about being away from his twin brother for the first time.

“We have our own ambitions, so this was bound to happen.

“I can only wish my brother the best of luck,” he added.

Asked on the secret of his academic success, Kai Wei said it boiled down to a willingness to knuckle down and do the work.
