Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has challenged Malaysian athletes to bag the country's first Olympic gold at the 2024 Paris Games.

"If that happens, it will be Malaysia's first gold medal in the Olympics. I want us to win at least one gold medal at the coming Olympic Games".

Anwar said to achieve this, all parties including the Youth and Sports Ministry, sports associations and athletes must work together and give their very best.

"This is a challenge I'm putting to the (Youth and Sports) Minister Hannah Yeoh and Olympic Council of Malaysia president Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria," he said.

He added that Yeoh and her deputy Adam Adli Abdul Halim were chosen to take on the youth and sports portfolios for better engagement with the younger generation.
