In a night filled with accolades and recognition, Cheng Jin Xiang, the professional Dota 2 player hailing from Malaysia and known by his gaming alias, NothingToSay, emerged as the standout performer at the Esports Awards Malaysia 2023. The 24-year-old, currently showcasing his skills with the G2.iG team, not only secured the coveted Most Valuable Player (MVP) title but also clinched the accolades for Best MOBA Player and Best Male Player. The inaugural ceremony, held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), marked a momentous occasion for the esports community in Malaysia.
Jin Xiang's journey into the professional gaming realm began at the age of 17, with his debut appearance at the ROG Masters 2017 championship held in the nation's capital. Fast forward to the present, and he stands tall as a triple award-winner, a testament to his dedication, skill, and contributions to the esports landscape.
Expressing gratitude for the recognition, Jin Xiang conveyed a powerful message through a displayed screen at the event, stating, "... I want to be the best in the world, and I will do my best. Malaysia Can! Thank you." Despite his absence at the ceremony, as he was actively participating in a tournament in Shanghai, China, his presence was strongly felt through his achievements and words.
In a poignant moment, the Esports Awards Malaysia 2023 also posthumously honored Allahyarham Agusalim Amran, fondly known as Hahagus, with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Agusalim, who led a team at the PUBG Mobile event during the SEA Games 2019, left an indelible mark on the esports community before his untimely passing in 2021.
The ceremony saw champions crowned in various categories, including Yoodo Alliance for Best Team, HomeBois for Best Organization, and Ramona for Best Female Player. The event, hosted by Alive Asia Events Sdn Bhd in collaboration with Esports Integrated (ESI) and supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, aimed to pay homage to the contributors shaping the rapidly evolving esports industry in Malaysia.
As NothingToSay continues to make waves both nationally and internationally, his triple triumph at the Esports Awards Malaysia 2023 cements his status as a gaming icon, inspiring aspiring esports enthusiasts across the country. The ceremony not only celebrated individual excellence but also underscored the collective growth and significance of esports in Malaysia's dynamic and ever-expanding gaming landscape.
