Datuk Abdul Latif Romly, the national champion in long jump, secured the fourth gold medal for the Malaysian team at the Hangzhou 2022 Para Asian Games. This victory marked his third consecutive gold at the quadrennial event.

Competing in the T20 men's long jump (physical disability) at the Huanglong Sports Center Stadium, he achieved his best jump of 7.18 meters in his fourth attempt, surpassing his initial 7.08m jump.

His compatriot, Zulkifly Abdullah, clinched the podium with a jump of 6.48m in his fourth attempt, after reaching 5.91m in his third try. The silver medal was claimed by Saudi Arabian athlete Hassan Nasser Dawshi, who jumped 6.80m in his second attempt.

Abdul Latif Romly expressed his gratitude for defending his third gold medal at the Para Asian Games.

"I only use 50 percent of my energy here. I have another mission for next year which includes the World Championships and the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games," he said to Bernama.

Despite his dominance in the T20 long jump event, he revealed he only utilized 50 percent of his energy, as he has upcoming challenges, including the World Championships and the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Earlier, the national shot put champion, Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli, contributed the third gold medal to the Malaysian team by winning the F20 (intellectual disability) shot put event.
