A TOTAL of 2,479 participants in Sarawak sang their way into the Malaysia Book of Records at the Padang Merdeka in Kuching, recently.
The event kicked off with the lighting of a large Christmas tree in front of the Plaza Merdeka shopping mall.
The carollers who were part of the "A Christmas Carol, Sarawak in Diversity" event, surpassed the initial target of 1,500 to set a new record for the largest Christmas carol gathering in the country.
The carollers belted our several Christmas favourites which included ‘O Holy Night’, ‘Feliz Navidad’, ‘Carols of the Bells’, ‘Deck the Halls’, and '12 Days of Christmas’.
Among the participants were those from St. Ann Church, Association of Churches Sarawak, St Mark Church, St Joseph Cathedral, Holy Trinity Church, Sarawak Evangelical Church and Sarawak Blessed Church (SECA), Ngajat Asal Iban (NGASI) Association and the Taoist community.
There were also participants from the Buddhist community, the Hindu community, the Sikh community and the Baha’i community.
The performance ended with the singing of the ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’.
The Christmas programme is organised by the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) and supported by TV Sarawak. It will be aired on the television channel on Dec 23.
