Birmingham Commonwealth Games: Nur Dhabitah Aims to Finish on a High Note

By Michelle Liew

In spite of her vast experience in the Commonwealth Games, national diver Nur Dhabitah Sabri, who was touted to achieve her gold medal aspirations, refused to let the pressure control her. She sees herself on equal levels with all other competitors, with hopes the pressure does not dilute her performance.

The three-time bronze medallist is going through her best phase at the moment after partnering with Datuk Pandelela Rinong and winning the World Championship bronze medal.

Nur Dhabitah, who will make her fourth appearance in the prestigious event, is aware that the country’s hopes lie in her partnership with Pandelela, but her focus now is on strengthening her diving techniques and compatibility ahead of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games from July 28.

Winning a medal in the Games is the main aim. Regardless of the result, I will always give my best. If I can, I really want to win a medal and make the country proud. I believe all athletes have the same goal. It’s true that my achievements are quite low. People are starting to pay attention to me partnering with Pandelela, and I want to showcase our best performances. I want to end this season with excellence because the Commonwealth Games is the last big event for me this year after winning medals in the SEA Games and the World Championships,” she said.

Nur Dhabitah admits that her career journey at an early age helped her prepare for major championships and she was lucky to receive positive feedback from the sponsorship of leading sports equipment brands which made it easier for her to achieve her best.

Stay tuned for the Commonwealth Games which will be held from July 28 until August 8 2022 in Birmingham, England.
