Vocalist of Malaysian rock band ‘Search’, Amy, or his real name Suhaimi Abdul Rahman has received the Melaka Seri Pangkuan (DPSM) award which carries the title of Datuk.

Amy became the only artist to receive the award in conjunction with the 73rd birthday of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam yesterday.

Amy expressed his gratitude to Tun Mohd Ali Rustam as well as the Chairman of the Melaka Industry, Investment and Entrepreneur Development Committee, Datuk Sri Ab Rauf Yusoh, stating that he was honoured to receive the award after making an impact in the music industry for over 42 years.

I’m grateful to the Melaka state government, Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Ali Rustam and all parties involved. While this award bestows the title of Datuk upon me, I will still be the Amy Search that everyone knows. I will still be Amy Search, a singer in our Malaysian music industry,” said Amy to Gempak.

However, Amy acknowledges that the award does not lighten his responsibility as an entertainer in the industry.

Being blessed with this award, it gives me more responsibility to be a better role model and this award is actually not for me individually, but it is a form of recognition for other artists and employees of the entertainment industry, that we all play an important role in our socio-economy,” he added.

Amy kickstarted his career around the early 80’s and has already received many recognitions in the music world, including the everlasting phenomenon through Search’s famous song ‘Isabella’. Search continued to gain recognition in neighbouring countries such as Indonesia and even managed to venture into acting, and notable movies include Isabella and Fenomena.

Amy is married to Norhasliza Hassan who was born in Melaka and has five children including actress and host, Nabila Huda.
