What started off as a hobby is now a thriving home-based business for a 58-year-old housewife.

Rahimah Hassan, from Mersing observed her mother's skill for crocheting during her childhood years which inspired her to also take up the skill.

Today, she skillfully creates bags, tissue boxes and table mats using various nylon threads.

The quality of her work has gained plenty of praise and over the past three years, demand has been soaring for the mother of six.

She even receives orders from Singapore through online platforms.

"I started with crocheting a flower. Over time, I received more orders – for bags, tissue box covers and ‘bunga telur.’

“I also learnt crochet craft techniques by watching YouTube tutorials, particularly for modern crafts, to keep up with the latest designs,” she said.

Among her most popular items are handbags with prices ranging from RM40 to RM150, depending on their size and design.

She said her work takes plenty of patience and the easiest items may take only 10 minutes, while the more challenging ones, like table mats, may take a few days.
