It was more than just a celebration of love and joy for Singaporeans, Peng Cheng Yu and Abraham Yeo when they were pronounced husband and wife at Singapore’s Yio Chu Kang Chapel.

According to YMI, the couple decided to steer away from a lavish wedding reception. Instead, they spent their money on a catered buffet spread and a carnival for all their guests, including, the homeless!

“We wanted the banquet to resemble a heavenly feast for our guests and to offer them a sense of abundance,” said the couple happily.

The ceremony which was attended by family and friends also witnessed 25 homeless people from Homeless Hearts of Singapore, sharing in the couple’s joy. In fact, Abraham started the Christian ministry in “Homeless Hearts of Singapore” with a friend and it was during one of its outreach activities in December 2017 that the couple first met each other.

Although their “special guests” were initially reluctant to attend the event as they had no clothes suitable for the occasion, their prayers were answered when a fellow church member offered to pay for their clothes. It is fair to say that it was all worth it!

“It was such a sight during the wedding, the ‘uncle’ was looking all dapper and everyone was so well-dressed. You will never be able to tell one apart from the other,” said Abraham.

To ensure their wedding ceremony was inclusive, hymns were sung in Bahasa Melayu. In addition, long tables were set instead of round ones to ensure everyone could eat and mingle freely.

Wedding aside, the couple is determined to continue helping the needy in the long run.

It is truly admirable and thoughtful of the couple to have shared their special day with less fortunate members of the community.

Best wishes to Abraham and Cheng Yu! May the years ahead be filled with lasting love and joy!
