The success of winning the gold medal at the Asian Championships in Dubai will be a source of inspiration for the country’s sailing athlete, Nur Shazrin Mohd Latif ahead of the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China next September.

The national Olympian stunned the crowd when she won the women’s radial laser event at the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club with 9 points, ahead of silver medallist Nethra Kumanan from India who had 17 points.

The bronze was won by Hong Kong sailor Nancy Highfield who scored 27 points. “Overall, everything went perfectly,” the 24 -year-old athlete said.

“It’s just that the situation here is a bit uncertain. Anyway, it’s a good start for me to go to the Asian Games later.”

Commenting further, Nur Shazrin, who had contributed bronze at the Jakarta Asian Games 2018 in the radial laser event said, she is now on a mission to hunt for a better medal in Hangzhou later.

“China and Japan often line up athletes who are more senior than me but it is not an obstacle for us from Malaysia to challenge them. What is important is to always give the best performance in every race,” said Nur Shazrin.
