The rampant spread of Covid-19 in Malaysia has forced everyone into their homes and confined them to the same walls, routines, and people. While these lockdowns and restrictions have been driving some Malaysians up the wall, others are making the most out of this situation and coming up with creative ways to occupy their time.

Denise and Kevyn Lee are a talented and compassionate sibling duo, who decided to start a donation drive with the extra free time that they now had. The intention behind the donation drive is to help poverty-stricken children in Malaysia, by raising funds for their education. The siblings wanted to give back to the community in some way or another and help relieve some of the struggles that many Malaysians are facing today. They chose to focus on providing education opportunities to children, as they believe that it plays a vital role in breaking the poverty cycle.

In July 2021, Denise and Kevyn launched their non-profit initiative Heppi Pins, encouraging people to donate to their fundraiser. Although there is no cap on minimum donation amounts, every donation of RM30 and above that is made towards Heppi Pins, is matched with a token of appreciation: either a handmade clay pin, a hand-painted tote bag, or a personalised hand embroidered tote bag, which will be delivered right to your doorstep. Their project is special in its own way because they are not tied down to create mass stocks – each handcrafted item is well-thought-out, personal, and creative! The handcrafted items are also wrapped in eco-friendly and biodegradable packaging.

Through this initiative, the siblings aim to raise RM5,000 by October 2021. After which, the raised amount will be donated to Dignity for Children, an organisation that sets out to empower underprivileged children through education. Denise and Kevyn stated that they were grateful for their education background and that they were able to grow up with a certain level of security, that can only come from financial stability. As many of these children do not have the luxury of financial stability, the duo is encouraging people to donate to their fundraiser and to create a ripple effect of kindness – positively impacting the lives of these less fortunate children.

It is inspiring to see this young-adult sibling duo, making an effort to help and uplift members of their community, through such creative means. During this difficult period of time, it is important to have compassion and care for one another and to support each other in any way possible.
