32-year-old Lee Hup Wei made history as the first Malaysian athlete to qualify for the finals in the high jump category at the prestigious World Athletics Championships 2019 held in Doha.

According to the Malay Mail, Hup Wei set a new record for our nation with an impressive 2.29 metre (m) jump – an amazing feat for an athlete who joined the competition on a “wildcard” ticket! Kudos to the Malaysia Athletics Federation (MAF) for making the right decision in selecting Hup Wei (MAF could only send one ‘wild card’ athlete to the competition as there was no Malaysian athlete who qualified on merit).

Netizens showed their support by congratulating him on his record-breaking performance. Hup Wei is no stranger to great success being a former SEA Games gold medallist. In fact, he was responsible for breaking the 13-year-old Malaysian record at the China Open in May 2008.

Hup Wei is set to compete in the finals in Doha this coming Saturday.

Good luck, Hup Wei!

Malaysia is rooting for your success. You got this!
