Hidden Figures (2016)

This movie is based on real-life experiences of three African American women –Katherine, Mary and Dorthy who worked in NASA in the 1960s. These talented ladies challenged social norms and gender inequality in a white-male dominated workplace which led to their instrumental role and historic milestone in launching astronaut, John Glenn into space.

On The Basis of Sex (2018)

A biographical legal film based on the early life of current Supreme Court Justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The film chronicles Justice Ginsburg’s life as a first year law student at Harvard Law School, being one out of nine females in a class of over 500 students, her struggle to find employment in a law firm and the first sex-discrimination case she argued in federal court in the early 1970s, a landmark case in legal history in the fight against gender discrimination.

Little Women (2019)

In this recent adaptation of the literary classic by Louisa May Alcott, director Greta Gerwig, brings to live the author’s voice, using dialogues taken from the writer’s original work while adding her own creative input. Featuring a cast of famous young stars such as Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Timotée Chalamet and Florence Pugh, the film depicts life during the Civil War and personal experiences of four sisters – Meg, Beth, Amy and Jo and their ambitions which in turn inspires us (both women and men) to believe in ourselves!

Coco before Chanel (2009)

A film which may resonate with many fashion enthusiasts out there, it depicts the life and times of one of the most iconic and inspirational woman in the fashion industry – Coco Chanel. Having left an orphanage, she worked as a seamstress and cabaret singer, earning the nickname ‘Coco’ from the song she sings way before meeting English businessman, Arthur Capel who encouraged her talent in making hats and developing her unique sense of fashion.

Mona Lisa Smile (2003)
The film takes place in the 1950s in Wellesley College in Massachusetts, an exclusive university for women. Featuring star-studded cast such as Julia Roberts, Kirsten Dunst and Julia Stiles, the movie highlights the resilience and ambition of a teacher from a middle-class upbringing played by Julia Roberts who is passionate about making a difference to her students by challenging gender stereotypes and conservative ideas about marriage.
