It was a big day for ‘Ungkalicious’ at the Terengganu CFA International Cat Show 2019. The one-eyed cat that weighs 5.8kg won the sixth place in the Household Pet category – all thanks to a cat-loving couple!

Rozita Haron and Mohd Fizi who care for the cute feline, describes their pet as frisky and mischievous. In fact, its name was inspired by the Javanese phrase ‘Ungkal’ which means stubborn.

Ungkalicious’s current life as a competitor in cat shows is a stark contrast to its life as a kitten (Warning:  Keep tissues handy!). Rozita first found Ungkalicious at the Alor Gajah market, the feline was only three months old and had been severely abused with a protruding and bleeding eye. The sight of this poor cat immediately caught the attention of the couple who took it to a veterinarian.

Due to its deteriorating condition, the poor kitten had to undergo surgery to remove its injured eye. This was to prevent further infection to its brain and Ungkalicious had a 50-50 chance of survival.

Fortunately, the surgery was a success and in no time Ungkalicious was on the road to recovery.

These days, when Ungkalicious is not busy competing at cat shows, it keeps 13 other furry siblings at home company in Malacca. Rozita and Fizi currently have 87 cats from different breeds under their care, including a Maine Coon, British Shorthair to local breeds. Half of them are cats they saved with severe impairments such as blindness and paralysis.

Good job, Rozita and Fizi! The love you have shown for stray and abused cats is inspiring!
